Tasting Notes: The Mazzi Valpolicella Classico presents a bright ruby red color and a clean, fragrant nose, bursting with vibrant notes of cherry, red berries, and delicate red flowers, complemented by a hint of light spices. On the palate, it is fresh, direct, and dynamic, showcasing a very drinkable, light-bodied profile with crunchy red fruit flavors, good acidity, and a smooth, appealing finish. This youthful wine is best enjoyed slightly chilled and pairs well with a variety of dishes, from charcuterie and soft cheeses to pasta and white meats.
Estate History: The Mazzi family has a long tradition in viticulture and winemaking, with roots in the hills of Negrar, within the historical Valpolicella Classica zone, dating back to the early 1900s. The estate, initially known as "Sanperetto," was revitalized in 1958 when Roberto Mazzi, a trained agronomist, began producing and bottling wines from specific hillside vineyards, including Calcarole, Castel, Poiega, and Villa. Today, the family legacy is continued by Roberto's sons, Stefano and Antonio, who manage the seven-hectare estate with a philosophy that blends tradition with a focus on enhancing the finesse and pure fruit characteristics of their wines, rather than the overly extracted styles found elsewhere in the region. They practice organic agriculture and continue to produce a range of high-quality wines, including Valpolicella Classico, Superiore, Amarone, and Recioto.
