Enjoyed by Etruscans, aristocrats from Siena, and even a 16th century Italian pope, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has been one of Toscana’s most noteworthy and versatile wines for centuries. Nestled among the rolling hills of Toscana between the rivers Orcia and Chiana, the town of Montepulciano and its surrounding area was among the first to be awarded DOCG (denominazione d’origine controllata e garantita) protected status. Not to be confused with the grape of the same name, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano must be made from at least 70% Sangiovese (locally known as Prugnolo Gentile), then aged for a minimum of 24 months – 12 of which must be spent in large oak barrels called botti. Channel your inner Italian noble and pick up some of our favorite bottles on sale through October 1st, 2023.
