Estate History: Seedlip was founded in 2015 by Ben Branson, a former adman inspired by his family's 300-year farming heritage in North Lincolnshire, England, and a 17th-century book titled The Art of Distillation that detailed non-alcoholic herbal remedies. Driven by a desire to create a sophisticated alternative to sugary mocktails, Branson began experimenting with a small copper still in his kitchen, eventually creating the world's first distilled non-alcoholic spirit and pioneering the category. The first 1,000 bottles of Seedlip Spice 94 sold out in the London department store Selfridges within three weeks of launch. The company was largely acquired by the drinks giant Diageo in 2019, though Branson retains a stake and continues to be involved in the brand's direction.
