Tasting Notes: The wine has notes of macerated strawberries and raspberries, morello cherries and black plum, which blend with subtle hints of herbs and earth. Surprisingly full in structure, fine tannins and bright acidity give the wine richness, complexity and persistence.
Estate History: The island of Sicily sits off the southern tip of Italy at a crossroads of the Mediterranean Sea. In the island’s northeast corner, a near-constant plume of smoke rises from the nearly 11,000-foot-high, still-active volcano named Mt. Etna—one of Italy’ most exciting wine regions and a world-wide rising star. It is in the volcanic soils of Mt. Etna where the Tornatore family has set deep, centuries old roots. The Tornatores, one the oldest wine growing families on Mt. Etna, have lived in Sicily since 1680 and trace their Etna grape growing back to 1865. That heritage and the Tornatore’s profound respect and understanding of the land is showcased in wines that capture the essence of Etna.
