Tasting Notes: The Salcheto Bianco di Montepulciano Obvius is an unfiltered white, straw yellow in color. The nose is clean and delicate, with hints of white fruit and mineral nuances. The fresh and juicy palate is decidedly fruity, with refreshing and lively flavors of stone fruit. A perfect pairing for seafood and fried fare.
Estate History: Salco means the willow tree in the ancient Tuscan language, an important plant for wine territories throughout history as its branches were used to bind the vines. The Salcheto Estate is the named after the stream, which springs at the foot of the village of Montepulciano and winds through a valley where willows once abounded. This stream is the boundary of their organic and biodynamic estate, rooted in the historic district of Vino Nobile, in the southeast of the Siena province of Tuscany. The willow tree, a species that they continue to replant at the winery, also contributes to the winery’s energy independence and is today prominently represented in their logo as part of their commitment to environmental sustainability. At Salcheto the mission is to seek quality, both in the vineyard and the cellar, with an unfailing respect for nature and the character of the grapes. Manual collections, sulfite-free vinifications, native yeats, large “Botte” and “Tonneaux” barrels are the tools used to create wines that are elegant and soft, with pronounced aromas. Wines are predominantly made of Sangiovese, a symbol of the Montepulciano terroir.
