Tasting Notes: The 2021 Montefico Riserva reveals an exceptionally deep and structured profile, seamlessly blending the vineyard's signature mineral austerity with the remarkable fruit density of this historic vintage. Aromas of blood orange, crushed rock, graphite, and wild mint lead into a full-bodied, multi-layered palate driven by dark red berries, iron, and savory dried herbs. The tannins are massive and taut yet remarkably fine-grained, working in harmony with a vibrant, linear freshness that propels a long, chalky finish. This is a monumental, tightly coiled Nebbiolo built for extensive cellar aging, showcasing an impressive balance of power, precision, and longevity.
Estate History: Founded in 1958, the Produttori del Barbaresco began when the local priest, Don Fiorino Marengo, united nine small growers to ensure their economic survival and maintain high-quality winemaking standard standards in the region. This cooperative model followed the historical precedent set in 1894 by Domizio Cavazza, who created the first cooperative winery in the area before it was forced to close during fascism. Today, the cooperative comprises over fifty member growers managing roughly 250 acres of prime Nebbiolo vineyards. By exclusively producing Nebbiolo and selecting only the finest fruit from nine distinct single-vineyard crus for their legendary Riservas in top vintages, the estate has earned a global reputation as a benchmark producer of world-class, terroir-driven Barbaresco.
