Tasting Notes: Pinot Nero from the Oltrepo Pavese, the hilly southern corner of Lombardy that is one of Italy's most important homes for the grape. Costa del Nero is fresh and elegant, with red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, hints of forest floor and sweet spice, silky tannins and lively acidity. Lovely with roast chicken, duck, mushroom risotto and salmon.
Estate History: The Giorgi di Vistarino family, whose estate is based at Rocca de' Giorgi, is credited with helping bring Pinot Nero to the Oltrepo Pavese in the nineteenth century.
